Hamilton Maintains Sixth Position in Point's Race

With 34 of the 35 NASCAR Busch Series races now in the history book, Bobby Hamilton, Jr. has an 82 point lead on seventh place Steven Leicht in the Championship Point’s battle.  A competitive run on Saturday afternoon in Homestead, FL will secure the sixth position for Hamilton.  The Tennessee native would finish the seasons as the second highest Busch Series regular in the point’s race.

Hamilton maintained the position following Saturday’s race at the Phoenix International Raceway.   The slick one mile raceway wasn’t overly friendly to Hamilton, but he still managed a 24th place finish.  With a major deficit in track time to the Cup drivers entered in the event, Hamilton was unable to find a setup to his liking for the event.  The McDonald’s chassis never loosened up enough for Bobby to hustle the car.

The McDonald’s Pit Crew worked hard on adjustments during each pit stop, shocks were adjusted, chassis rubbers were added, all looking to find the right balance on the car.  Hamilton hung tough and kept the team in position to maintain the grip on sixth place in the points.

“We wanted to run better today, it just didn’t happen for us,” Hamilton said. “Our goal right now is to keep that sixth position in the points and we intend to do just that next week.  The finish would be a very nice accomplishment for everyone at Team Rensi Motorsports.  We will work hard on Saturday to finish the season with a top-ten finish.”

Kyle Busch held off a large group of Nextel Cup drivers to claim the win on Saturday.  Saturday’s season finale will take the green flag in Homestead, FL, check your local listings for times in your area.  This will also be the final race in the history of the Busch Series as Nationwide takes over as the series sponsor in 2008.  Team Rensi Motorsports wants to thank Busch for the decades of support to the series.
