Hamilton Moves to Fifth Place in Point's Championship Battle
With five races remaining in the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series Point’s Championship, Bobby Hamilton, Jr. has moved into a tie for fifth in the standings. Following Saturday’s race at Kansas Speedway, Hamilton moved into a tie with Nextel Cup driver David Ragan for fifth position. Only one true Busch Series driver, Jason Leffler, stands ahead of Hamilton in the point’s race. Full time Nextel Cup driver Carl Edwards continues to lead Nextel Cup driver David Reutimann in race for the championship.
Hamilton moved into the fifth place tie with a strong 13th place qualifying effort and a 20th place finish. He overcame body damage from a multi-car accident to rebound for the finish. Hamilton drove a very smart race, working to improve his McDonald’s Ford during each pit stop. Crew chief Chris Wright called an excellent race for his driver, allowing him to gain 42 points on David Ragan.
“We are excited to be inside the top-five in point’s right now,” Hamilton said. “This team has worked hard all year in what has been the toughest year ever for competition. We are looking forward to the last five races of the season.”
Kyle Busch captured the win and NASCAR discovered the Nextel Cup driver had used an illegal intake manifold to grab the Busch Series win. NASCAR is expected to announce any penalties to Busch on Tuesday.
The Busch Series takes this weekend off before heading to Lowe’s Motor Speedway for a Friday Night race under the lights.
